About Me
Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Psychological Associate who works with children, adults and couples. With over 15 years of experience, I have counseled children suffering emotional abuse and neglect as well as with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder and other issues. I have also spent years conducting psychological and behavioral testing with both children and adults. I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University Central Texas.
I began practicing therapy during graduate school over 15 years ago with children in the foster care system. I also worked closely with a mentor in private practice seeing clients and couples. Following grad school, I began conducting psychological testing, under supervision of a psychologist, completing psychological testing and writing reports. During this work, I honed my clinical skills to properly diagnose individuals and develop treatment plans to best improve their life. While working in this clinical setting, I also began counseling part-time under my own license and business. While I loved testing, I also realized I truly loved providing therapy services and helping individuals improve their functioning. As a result, I joined a group practice closer to home and began conducting therapy on a full-time basis.
My Focus and Goals
I enjoy working with clients of different ages and backgrounds. I believe people should not identify or be identified by their disorders or conditions, but recognize they have the symptoms and can overcome. All people experience stress but what separates people is the way they manage this stress. For some it can be easy and for others this can be very difficult, leading to the development of anxiety or depression. Teens also suffer from various stress, but these young people have limited coping strategies or experience trying to manage. It is important to teach these skills and allow time to practice and strengthen them.
My goal in therapy is to guide others through their struggles, helping them gain insight and providing tools to resolve the challenges they face. My wish is for clients to identify emotions but not allow these emotions to control or define them. Learning to overcome is empowering and when people feel empowered, they do great things. It is always my goal to assist my clients toward the achievement of their fullest potential and live a healthy balanced life.
